Working With Us

Visiting Scholars & Internships

We welcome external visiting scientists and interns for short-term study and research alongside our teams! Your first step to working alongside us is to review our research projects and to contact the faculty directly. Once you receive an invitation to join a CIIC laboratory, getting you set up to work in the labs will usually involve the processes described in the quick links below. For high school students/educators, please apply via the formal programs in the next section.

Formal Programs for High School Students, Educators, or Undergraduates

Fellowships and training programs available to support both short-term (9-10w) research experiences and longer-term in-depth research training within CIIC laboratories. Some of these programs are open to non-UChicago students.

Designed for high school students, college students, and secondary science educators, the program supports 8 weeks/summer for 2 summers of full-time immersion in a cancer research laboratory, individualized mentoring, skill-building workshops, faculty lecture series, research symposium and group social event. Monthly activities and programming are available throughout the year.

In partnership with After School Matters, PME Youth Lab Interns participate in research at the college level as members of research teams, gaining significant insight into how to work in an innovative and collaborative environment to solve some of society’s most pressing challenges. High school students would apply through the After School Matters website.

High school students interested in scientific research or medicine are invited to this full-time, full-immersion program (8 weeks) that puts them in the laboratories of established cancer researchers, gaining hands-on experience in areas at the forefront of the field: cancer immunology, bioengineering, experimental cancer therapeutics, cancer disparities and more.
